Annual car show shifts gears; returns to NECC in fall

HAVERHILL — Organizers of the third annual car show to benefit Veterans Northeast Outreach Center in Haverhill are shifting gears and have changed the venue and date for the event.

Although it was recently announced that the show would be held April 27 at North Shore Community College, organizers say the venue cannot accommodate the more than 600 antique, classic, muscle cars and specialty vehicles whose owners expressed interest in participating.

So, the event will return to Northern Essex Community College’s Haverhill campus, where it has been held the past two years.

Bill Kelly, executive director of VNEOC, said he met with NECC officials to confirm the date of Sept. 28, with Sept. 29 as the rain date.

“We’re hoping for a nice fall day,” he said. “College officials were very accommodating and will allow us to use the same parking lot as the last two years, which is the lot in front of the Hartleb Technology Center.”

“This gives us more time to plan and execute well without having to jump through hoops,” Kelly said.

Last year’s car show drew about 1,000 visitors, he said.

No prizes will be awarded at this display-only event. Entertainment includes music by a DJ as well as a 50/50 raffle and raffles for baskets. Resource tables will include the VA along with other veteran support and nonprofit organizations.

“If you’re a veteran or you provide care to a veteran we will be available to answer questions so come and talk with us at our booth,” Kelly said.

Additional details about the car show will be published at a later date.
