AVENGERS: ENDGAME Gets A Surprisingly Impassioned Defense From Singer And Talk Show Host Kelly Clarkson

Avengers: Endgame sits at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes with more than 550 reviews. However, with many critics turning on superhero movies in recent years, there’s been an increase in “superhero fatigue” talk and a general, often overly harsh, criticism of the genre.

However, one person who won’t put up with the 2019 movie being torn down in any way is singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson.

In a new video posted on The Kelly Clarkson Show‘s YouTube channel, the American Idol winner responds to negative Letterboxd reviews. In the case of Avengers: Endgame, she was having none of it.

“Who gave this a bad review?” Clarkson wondered before mocking critics: “‘Ugh, it’s just these big epic Marvel things. These big epic superhero movies.’ Fans love them. Not everything has to be Shawshank Redemption. Whatever.”

The review also referenced Martin Scorsese’s scathing assessment of comic book adaptations to which Clarkson said, “There’s nothing wrong with theme park rides. People love theme parks!”

When another took aim at the fact Scarlet Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff eats a peanut butter sandwich in one scene despite the movie having a budget of $350 million or more, the singer responded, “I know what you’re talking about, and that’s when all of her friends freaking disappeared!”

“They’re gone! Who cares what she’s eating?! Was she supposed to be dining on sushi while all of her friends were gone? Like, I don’t know!”

“The end of Endgame was so boss! They all came back! Doctor Strange is incredible. He was just like br, br, br, br  with the magic, and like everybody came through and was like, ‘What’s up, Thanos?'” Clarkson added, sharing her glowing review of the movie. “It was really great. I loved it.”

It’s always fun to encounter a celebrity superhero movie fan and Clarkson has a lot of love for Avengers: Endgame. You can hear more of her hot takes on negative movie reviews in the player below.

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the movie features an epic ensemble which includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Josh Brolin.

For a time, Avengers: Endgame was the highest-grossing movie ever released with $2.799 billion at the worldwide box office. However, Avatar‘s re-release during the pandemic saw that return to the top spot.

Avengers: Endgame is now streaming on Disney+.
