PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency has arrested five persons, including a doctor, for their alleged involvement in supplying unregistered medicines to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan.
A statement issued by FIA said that the agency raided different areas in the provincial capital and Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district and seized fake and unregistered medicines worth Rs77 million.
The statement said a raid was carried out in Gulbahar area of the provincial capital, where the agency recovered fake and unregistered medicines worth Rs43.5 million on the lead provided by the alleged suppliers.
The statement said a doctor was arrested following initial investigation from the accused persons. The agency also recovered medicines worth Rs28 million from the doctor’s house, also in Gulbahar area.
“Raids were also conducted in Shabqadar, where fake medicines worth Rs5 million were recovered from different godowns,” the statement said, adding that a case was registered against the arrested persons.
The statement said that the case would be probed further in light of the report of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan after examination of the seized medicines.
