Stanislaus State’s The Kappa Sigma Fraternity will be back in downtown Turlock on May 4 for the second annual Military Heroes Car Show, which raises funds for the national fraternity’s Military Heroes Campaign. The campaign, launched in 2007 has raised more than $1.67 million to support various veterans’ charities aimed at ensuring veterans receive the support needed to live a stable life.
“We are honored to host the second annual Military Heroes Car Show and to have the opportunity to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for our country and community,” said event coordinator Karlos Marquez, an alumnus of the fraternity.
From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on First Street, tens of dozens of classic cars, whose event registration fees will go towards the Military Heroes Campaign, will be on display alongside vendors and informational booths. Turlock Military Recruiting Station and American Veterans First will be among those present to provide information and resources for prospective, current and former military members.
An opening ceremony is slated for 9 a.m., where the Turlock High School NJROTC, accompanied by the Turlock Police Department Honor Guard, will present the nation’s colors. During the event, three Turlock organizations will be honored — the American Legion Rex Ish Post 88, the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary Post 5059, and the Disabled American Vets Chapter #74.
“This event is more than just showcasing cars, it’s about recognizing and honoring the dedication and sacrifice of our military personnel,” Marquez added.
Taqueria La Primera, the taco shop located on the downtown block that has continued to host their own car shows over the past year, will be open, while Kona Ice will also be on-site. The event will be taking place concurrent to the Turlock Certified Farmers Market.
“We are proud to contribute to the vibrant downtown experience, especially alongside the Farmers Market,” said Isaian Martinez, event coordinator and fraternity leader. “It’s a testament to the community spirit that makes events like these so special.”
The Kappa Sigma Fraternity is hosting the event alongside the City of Turlock, Taqueria La Primera and B and C Investigations Inc. The event is sponsored by Kirke’s Electric, State Farm and Ray Vazquez, Stigler Mortgage.
Organizations supported by the national Military Heroes Campaign include SEAL Legacy Foundation, Veterans Moving Forward, Homes for Our Troops, Veteran Success Resource Group, Warriors and Quiet Waters Foundation, the Catch a Lift Fund and True Patriot Love.
