‘Fresh and delicious’: Bethlehem’s newest sushi, hibachi restaurant drawing big crowds

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Foodies are flocking to a new full-service restaurant – offering sushi rolls, hibachi dinners and other made-to-order Japanese specialties – in Northampton County.

Kyoto Sushi & Hibachi Steak House, serving freshly prepared sushi, sashimi and other Japanese dishes, opened May 9 at 2342 Easton Ave. in Bethlehem.

The renovated building previously housed other restaurants, including Tokyo Do Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar and, most recently, Noval Kitchen, an eatery specializing in Cantonese cuisine.

“The community is very excited,” Kyoto manager Ling Lin said.

“We haven’t done much advertising, but we’ve already had a lot of customers during our first few days. People keep telling us that they were looking at our ‘coming soon’ sign for months and were so excited to finally see the balloons and ‘grand opening’ sign.”

Workers overhauled the Easton Avenue building with new kitchen equipment, wall paint, a sushi bar and other upgrades. They also painted the floor a black and white marble design.

Customers can enjoy appetizers such as edamame, shrimp shumai and pork or vegetable gyoza; Japanese fried rice selections such as beef, chicken and seafood; and udon noodle dishes such as vegetable, chicken and shrimp.

“So far, customers are really loving our pineapple fried rice,” Lin said. “That’s been very popular, along with our New York strip hibachi and Pink Lady special roll. Everything is fresh and delicious, made-to-order.”

Kyoto customers also can choose from sushi bar appetizers ($9.95-$13.95) such as mango salmon tartare and yellowtail jalapeno, along with around 20 varieties rolls and hand rolls (most under $8) such as California, tuna avocado, eel cucumber and spicy salmon crunch.

Sushi entrees, starting at $22, include miso soup or ginger salad, while hibachi dinners, starting at $16, include suimono, soup, salad, vegetables and choice of fried rice or noodles.

Customers can pick from various hibachi dinners, prepared in the kitchen, including combinations such as chicken and scallops, filet mignon and lobster and New York strip and shrimp.
