Gardening season is here, plant doctors share advice

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The last few weeks to plant seedlings and watch them grow are upon us and plant doctors at Moana Nursery weighed in on the best gardening advice for springtime.

Some of the best veggies and fruits for gardens here in northern Nevada are lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and herbs; like rosemary and oregano.

If starting seedlings isn’t for you, there are veggies and fruits ready to be planted in your garden from the nursery that are used to the dry, hotter climate since they are grown in Minden.

Gardeners told me that there is still a chance at a last frost since there is a bit of snow left on Peavine. So, if possible, find ways to ensure your plants can stay warm if the nights become too cold.

In addition, protecting plants from wildlife can be a concern.

Generally, planting herbs can help deter rabbits or squirrels and smaller animals since they do not like the taste.
