Goldie Hawn’s outdoor decor technique merges ‘beauty and practicality’ – it will bring charm to our summer yards

There is never a bad time to think about exterior design, but now, on the fringe of summer, we have every excuse we need to bring our outdoors to the top of our agenda. As with every year, the warmer weather offers new opportunities to invest in new outdoor furniture – and this time around, we’re looking to Goldie Hawn for inspiration.

The actress’s yard is the perfect summer setting, complete with a lush lawn, palm trees, and white-painted French doors. If we had to choose a feature in Hawn’s yard, however, her patterned outdoor furniture would come out on top. The blue and brown cushion, seen on Hawn’s white rattan chair, is a reminder of how an injection of pattern will always make a statement – but it doesn’t look overly intrusive. The aesthetic qualities of Hawn’s furniture are clear, but as Babcock explains, patterned furniture has its practical qualities, too.

‘Patterned designs not only add a fun and unique touch but also do a great job of hiding dirt and stains, which is super important as it needs to be able to withstand the elements and any company you have over,’ she says. ‘Whether you go for bold stripes or delicate floral patterns, these pieces add charm and character, making your outdoor living area more cozy and inviting.’

Plus, the patterned nature of Hawn’s furniture is not the only thing setting garden trends for 2024. Lynsey Abbott, the senior buyer at Dobbies, says that rattan furniture is similarly continuing to shape how we decorate. Hawn has chosen white rattan, but this classic material will impress in every hue.
