“Gym inspo” is taking on a whole new meaning after a woman captured something unexpected during her workouts.
A video posted to TikTok by Sydney Cassidy (@sydgrows) went viral after inadvertently capturing her evolving romance with a fellow gym-goer during her workout videos. Since the clip was posted on June 11, it has received over 670,000 views and nearly 65,000 likes.
“POV: You accidentally spent the year recording yourself falling in love,” she captioned the video. “So, I met this boy…”
Cassidy is seen using a series of gym machines as her now-boyfriend assists her. A hand on the lower back for a pull-up, a loosening of the shoulders and other small gestures of affection slowly build throughout the video.
By the end, the two are talking frequently, sharing beverages, laughing and joking around in the gym and looking at each other longingly.
Viewers in the comments who had been following Cassidy’s fitness journey said they had seen the signs in her videos for a long time.
“We’ve been telling you for ages! Wishing you the best,” @cozywithbrina wrote.
“The body language even from early on tells a story,” @ellenvwatermelon wrote.
“That seems like a pure and loyal love,” @violaine.0 wrote. “I wish you all the happiness in the world.”
Some drew the conclusion that Cassidy’s success in finding love had to do with her consistency at the gym—and not everybody was happy about that revelation: “So, I must go to the gym,” @nomafu.n wrote.
“When the gym crush makes it out of the gym,” @james.gmez wrote.
Candid Love Stories Make It Big on TikTok
Cassidy’s inadvertent documentation of her gym romance drew a big audience in just a day—and it seems that people online enjoy being observers of budding love.
In early June, a video went viral after a Ring doorbell camera captured a queer couple’s journey from friends to lovers.
Initially showing the two acting as friends—who, notably, could not stop laughing together—the video eventually reveals them as a couple who become more and more physically close.
The couple spoke to Newsweek about their documented love story, which only took from November to February to evolve into its current form.
“It was obvious there was an instant connection,” they said previously. “Even though we initially tried to be friends, we instantly became inseparable…I think trying to start our foundation as friends helped us discuss topics quicker than we would have otherwise, which made us even stronger.”
The appeal of a slow-budding romance stretches far and wide on TikTok—especially when it’s documented before people even know they’re lovers.
