HOUSTON — Jessica Raney, an author originally from Marietta has released her 8th book.
“Root and Bone,” is a rural fantasy book set in a small Appalachian town and tells the story of two witchy sisters who use their knowledge of folk magic, herbal medicine, and folklore to solve a series of murders plaguing their sleepy little town.
Hailing from Marietta, Raney grew up in Lowell and attended Fort Frye Local Schools before moving on to Ohio University.
She is currently based in Houston, Texas, but the Mid-Ohio Valley will always be home. Raney modeled the main characters, sisters, on her grandmother and great-aunt and dedicated the book to many strong women she has known. “My grandmother was a woman ahead of her time, doing things women didn’t routinely do in the 1950s. She and her sisters have always been an inspiration in my life. This book celebrates strong women, my Appalachian roots, and my love of storytelling.”
The book is the first in a planned series and is published by Cursed Dragon Ship Publishing, a small press that specializes in horror, fantasy, and science fiction.
“Root and Bone” is available in eBook and paperback versions wherever books are sold.
