Laura Kim’s Collection with Crate & Barrel “Brings Fashion Home” — Our Style Editor Shares Her 12 Favorite Pieces
When high fashion meets homeware, you know you’re in for a treat. Over the years, we’ve seen some of fashion’s most creative minds transition from runway to rolling pins — even if just for a season. Most recently, Laura Kim, co-creative director of Oscar de la Renta and Monse, made her debut into the world of interiors with Crate & Barrel. Their collaborative collection (already a fan-favorite) can best be described as a garden romance.
The botanical-inspired kitchenware, table decor, and furniture echo what you might have already admired on Laura’s idyllic, floral-filled Instagram feed, made available from one of our favorite home decor brands. Think marble pinch bowls, delicately dipped dish towels, and fluted glassware — it’s all in the details. While the pieces are undeniably elevated, each one is designed with real life top of mind, reflecting both Laura Kim’s culinary talent and Crate & Barrel’s practical sensibilities.
‘I’m never interested in creating something that already exists. Whether I’m designing for the runway or creating a recipe for a dinner party, I want to create something new,’ Laura explains. ‘Partnering with Crate & Barrel allowed me to do just that, to create unique pieces that bring a whimsical yet modern edge into your home.’
Despite the collection’s fanciful roots, you’ll be delighted to discover prices starting at just $6.95. The variety is impressive — salad plates, rugs, even a ceramic dog pie vent. While most of us can’t splurge on the entire collection, I took the pleasure of sifting through every piece (still cheaper than an Oscar de la Renta dress, I tell myself).
My 12 favorites that prove a fashionista’s taste transcends categories. True style, embodied by this Crate & Barrel collection, is about living a life of ubiquitous beauty.
Crate & Barrel x Laura Kim
According to Sebastian Brauer, Senior Vice President of Product Design, Crate & Barrel, ‘Each piece embodies a signature blend of timeless elegance, craftsmanship, beauty and modern innovation, coming together as a collection that brings fashion home.’
Peony Dipped Taper Candles, Set of 2
Price: $6.95
Because everyone needs an extra set of taper candles! This set of two is the perfect shade of peony — a muted, wearable pink that feels light and summery without feeling too frilly. Pair with your favorite candle holder to set an elegant mood atop a dining table, bookshelf, or mantle.
King of Soho Dog Pie Vent
Price: $9.95
Now that you’ve heard the lure about this dog-shaped pie vent, this was an obvious must-include. Inspired by Laura’s goldendoodle, it’s just the charming culinary touch you didn’t know you needed. You’ll notice that the pup is howling, allowing steam to pass through its mouth. Simply place it at the base of your pie before filling to prevent soggy crusts, filling overflow, and of course, a healthy dose of whimsy. Candidly, I don’t make pies, but at $9.95, I will be adding this to my cart.
Pom Pom 3-Oz. Green Marble Pinch Bowl
Price: $19.95
Suffice it to say that it’s never been chicer to grab a pinch of salt or spice flakes. I love this bowl’s forest green marble, which is such a refreshing change from the black or white varieties we’re used to seeing. Its petite shape is perched atop three ball feet, making for quite the elevated design, literally and figuratively. Place on a countertop for easy access and a little pop of color.
Served by the Seas Ceramic 2-Piece Serving Set
Price: $19.95
With its sea shell motifs, this serving set feels very coastal grandmother — storied, beachy, and elevated. Its handles are slightly irregular, offering a natural asymmetry that’s not only timeless but also right on trend for the current design landscape. Its off-white glaze shines beautifully in sun-drenched rooms or even a daytime alfresco meal. Pairs best with wood or other ceramics.
Laura’s Garden Bouquet 60″ x 120″ Linen Tablecloth
Price: $169.95
Painterly brushwork makes for one of the sweetest tabletop garden scenes I’ve seen in some time. It’s the perfect whimsical backdrop to set the mood for spring and summertime brunches and lunches. This tablecloth pairs beautifully with the rest of Laura’s collection, though it would also look lovely with any of your best dinnerware sets in creams, pastels, or for additional drama: black. This piece might be a bit of a splurge, but considering that it’s crafted from EUROPEAN FLAX™ Linen, which is produced sustainably without irrigation or GMOs, I’d say it’s worth the spend.
17″ Vintage-Inspired Wooden Serving Bowl
Price: $99.95
Like black trousers or a pair of jeans, everyone needs a wooden serving bowl in their life. There are many out there, but finding one that’s perfectly proportioned and, for lack of better words, feels just right is easier said than done. I had been on the hunt myself, so naturally, I was delighted to see this pick pop up on my screen. Wide and dramatic, crafted from renewable mango wood with a rich patina, I think I’ve met the one. Use to toss salads or add a few favorite fruits and leave for a countertop display.
Striped and Dipped in Turmeric Organic Cotton Dishtowels, Set of 2
Price: $24.95
It’s enormously difficult to perfect an ombre. Done wrong, and you’ve already ventured into tacky territory. But if anyone knows how to master the technique, it would be Laura, and these dipped dish towels do not disappoint. Like a whisper of lemonade, this set brings a tasteful and fresh pop to your kitchen. The duo is also available in a spinach green for an earthier look.
Linus Brown Leather Dining Chair
Price: $499
Farmhouse, but make it chic, is the vibe of this clean-lined dining chair. Leaning into the little things, it’s its red oak wood grain that takes center stage. However, my favorite part is its full-grain leather seat, which takes on a luxe, velvety appearance that will patina and get increasingly beautiful over time. A chair that’s ready to make memories, consider purchasing a set to place around a similarly natural-looking wood dining table. Or if you’re tight on space, this would also work as a petite accent chair.
Rose Cappuccino Marble Tall Dessert Stand
Price: $69.95
If you don’t already own a dessert stand, consider this your sign. A well-chosen pedestal like this one in a delicious rose cappuccino marble can make even a Costco muffin look gourmet (also a genius hosting hack to keep in mind — it’s all about the presentation). Still, this stand’s not just desserts — it could also be used to serve savory snacks as well, or, when the party’s over, to hold perfumes, candles, and other pretty little things.
Extra-Large Plisse Glass Rectangular Storage Container with Wood Lid
Price: $19.95
This container came as a blaring reminder that it might finally be time to upgrade my pitiful Tupperware situation. This fluted glass takes on a sartorial “pleated” effect to elevate your everyday food. Given that this clever design bakes, stores, and freezes, I’ve opted for the extra-large size to accommodate leftovers, though it’s available in many smaller varieties as well. Oh, and as if it couldn’t get more luxe, its top is FSC®-certified acacia wood.
Velvet Linen 14″x14″ Oregano Green Gusset Throw Pillow
Price: $59.95
For anyone who prioritizes fashion over function, you might have some less-than-comfy seats on your hands. This gusset cushion makes for a stylish solution. It’s the perfect shade of oregano, which just so happens to be among Laura’s favorite ingredients. Works on dining chairs, benches, or even stacked among more pillow varieties to make for a cozy reading corner. Also available in mauve and taupe.
Price: $29.95
From gold and chrome pastries to soda cans donning bows, edible accessories are becoming a fashion in and of itself. Right on trend is this eyelet rolling pin, creating dough imprints that reminisce Laura’s favorite summer dresses. Use to delicately decorative sugar cookies, fondants, and pie crusts, displaying right in plain view with your other favorite pastry tools.
Is Crate & Barrel good quality?
In short: Yes! The retailer has earned a special place in my heart. Growing up in Los Angeles, I often visited Crate & Barrel stores with my family, especially when preparing for hosting brunches, dinners, or family gatherings. We’d pick out stemware, plates, and seasonal items — my mother had a strong affinity, to put it lightly, for purchasing new throw pillows. From napkin rings to chairs, I have quite a bit of Crate & Barrel experience under my belt, and I’ve always been impressed.
Crate & Barrel lives up to its high-end reputation by using only the best materials. It’s not just about the look of a spoon; it’s about the weight of it — quality makes all the difference. In the Crate & Barrel x Laura Kim collection, expect durable materials, including ceramics, recycled glass, and solid oak wood. These items might not be the cheapest in their category, but if you’re looking for timeless quality and masterful construction, they’re well worth the investment.
