Legendary classic rock band’s last original member dead at 82

The Moody Blues co-founder, vocalist and keyboardist Mike Pinder died Wednesday. He was 82.

No cause of death has been revealed.

Pinder’s son, Michael Lee Pinder, shared the news of his father on Facebook and shared his thanks for the support from fans.

“Michael’s family would like to share with his trusted friends and caring fans that he passed peacefully,” he wrote in caption. “His final days were filled with music, encircled by the love of his family.”

In the post, he described his father as a “musician… cosmic philosopher and friend.”

“Michael lived his life with a childlike wonder, walking a deeply introspective path which fused the mind and the heart,” he continued. “He created his music and the message he shared with the world from this spiritually grounded place… His authentic essence lifted up everyone who came into contact with him. His lyrics, philosophy, and vision of humanity and our place in the cosmos will touch generations to come.”

His bandmate Denny Laine’s widow Elizabeth Mele also shared the news on Instagram.

“Very sad news, the last of the original lineup of the Moody Blues has passed away,” the caption read. “He is now reunited with Denny, Ray, Graeme and Clint; what a joyous reunion that must be.”

She included a video of him playing the song “Go Now” on the piano.

Pinder was the last surviving original member of the band. He contributed 27 songs to their music catalog including hits “My Song” and “Lost in a Lost World,” between the years of 1964 and 1978, which is when he left the band. In 2018, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues.

In 1976, he released a solo album titled “The Promise,” and after leaving the band, he left the music scene for decades until 1994 when he returned with another “Among the Stars” followed by 1995′s “A Planet With One Mind” and 1996′s “A People With One Heart.”
