Principal Charity Classic

  • When: Friday, May 31 through Sunday, June 2

  • Where: Wakonda Club (3915 Fleur Dr., Des Moines)
  • Price: $30 for single-day admission

The Principal Charity Classic has a new look this year following major renovations to the Wakonda Club. As a mainstay on the PGA Tour Champions schedule, the 2024 PCC will feature eight past champions and six World Golf Hall of Famers. Not to mention, the event supports a great cause: Since 2007, the PCC has raised more than $53.7 million for Iowa children’s charities, according to the PCC website.

  • When: Friday, May 31, 5-9 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday, June 2, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Where: St. George Greek Orthodox Church (1110 35th St., Des Moines)
  • Price: Free to attend

It’s all Greek to me (literally!) at this annual festival. Get a taste of authentic Greek cuisine, including gyros, dolmathes, spanakopita and moussaka.

Vendors will be on site selling Greek gifts and pantry items, and members of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church will perform cultural dances.

  • Where: Johnston Town Center (6245 Merle Hay Rd., Johnston)
  • Price: Free to attend

Let the kids burn off some energy this weekend at this jam-packed, family-focused event. The festival will feature activities such as mini golf, bubble art and various yard games, plus live entertainment and food trucks. 

  • When: Saturday, June 1, 1-4 p.m.
  • Where: Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park (2201 George Flagg Parkway, Des Moines)
  • Price: $50 in advance, $60 day of

It’s no secret that Iowans love their craft beers. At this event, brewery enthusiasts can sample more than 300 different beers, ciders, meads and more from over 70 breweries across Iowa. And of course, you can’t drink on an empty stomach. That’s why over a dozen food trucks will also be on festival grounds. 

Note: This event is strictly for individuals 21 and over.

  • Where: West Capitol Mall (1007 E. Grand Ave., Des Moines)
  • Price: Free

Close out the first weekend of June with an outdoor concert. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets and listen to some smooth jazz, performed by the New Orleans Jazz Combo. Tina Haase-Findlay will perform as a guest vocalist.
