DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — Decatur ice cream shop Kaleidoscoops closed its doors last year after serving delicious flavors for decades, but now, the spot is reopening.
Kaleidoscoops will open for customers on Saturday. You can expect lots of ice cream, and many of the flavors are returning favorites.
When Kaleidoscoops announced it would be closing after nearly 50 years, many reminisced about their sweet memories of the place, including new co-owner Erick Fernandez.
“I used to bring my kid when she was young,” Fernandez said. “We used to come over here and buy ice cream every weekend and go to the park.”
He moved to Decatur in 200 and remembers Kaleidoscoops from those days.
“It was a small shop, and there really wasn’t much to do in Decatur, so a lot of people come to Kaleidoscoops to get something sweet,” Fernandez said.
Erick Fernandez and Jessie Hoover are the new owners of Kaleidoscoops, so the shop is still locally owned.
“We just thought, hey you know, this place can’t just be closed. It needs to come back alive,” Fernandez said.
When the couple announced on Facebook the shop would be reopening, customers expressed their excitement, already requesting their favorite flavors. Hoover and Fernandez said they are looking forward to seeing the community come out.
Kaleidoscoops will open its doors on Saturday, June 1, just in time for the summer heat.
