Megan Thee Stallion got emotional while performing on Saturday in Tampa, Florida, after one of her online posts seemed to reference a pornographic deepfake video that reportedly used artificial intelligence to generate her face.
Megan appeared to get choked up during “Cobra,” a song that discusses depression, as seen in a concertgoer’s video footage from her Hot Girl Summer Tour.
The rapper danced without rapping a few bars in the track: “Breakin’ down and I had the whole world watchin’ / But the worst part is really who watched me / Every night I cried, I almost died / And nobody close tried to stop it.”
She then managed to rap a couple of lines — “At night, I’m sittin’ in a dark room thinkin’ / Probably why I always end up drinkin’” — before fanning herself and covering her face.
While the three-time Grammy winner did not explicitly mention the pornographic video during her show, she seemed to address it on X, formerly Twitter, the same day.
“It’s really sick how yall go out of the way to hurt me when you see me winning. Yall going too far, Fake ass shit. Just know today was your last day playing with me and I mean it,” she posted on X on Saturday.
There is a growing list of deepfake videos, many of them sexually explicit, attacking public figures. Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and podcast host Bobbi Althoff were targeted in the fabricated videos earlier this year.
