Meghan Trainor has revealed that she returned to work just one week after welcoming her second son via C-section.
During an appearance on Today on Friday morning, the 30-year-old popstar revealed how baby Barry and three-year-old son Riley ‘inspire’ her and make her ‘want to be better and work harder.’
When asked to describe her new music, Meghan said: ‘Oh my gosh, it is an upbeat album because I know you all need it! I have this beautiful ballad called Timeless, which is everything for me… it is for my kids, it is for the love I have in this world.
‘I want to live forever and be timeless and love forever. When you have kids, you get emotional. They inspired so much, especially the song Timeless. I wanted to capture my love for them in a song and also my fear of not being here forever,’ Meghan continued.
‘When you have kids, I feel like you are like, “I want to live forever and ever and ever,” so I could be with them as long as possible and I tried to capture that in my big ballad Timeless.’
Meghan said that she’s ‘most proud’ of the fact that she started writing songs for the album just a week after her second C-section, as she revealed Riley and Barry ‘really inspire me a lot and they just make me want to be better and work harder.’
‘So, I was still recovering, and I was like, “I’ve got to write this song,” so I was really excited to get into it. My three-year-old just started talking, so every day I would write a song and I would always be there for bath time and he would say, “could we hear momma’s new song?” He knows every word to every song,’ Meghan gushed.
She explained that she wants fans to listen to the track and ‘just try to live in the moment,’ as she described the album as ‘all the stuff I’m going through as a mom.’
‘[I’m] trying to learn how to love myself after two C-sections and being kinder to myself and trying to do it all,’ she said before referring to her fans and saying: ‘I hope they like it, I hope it makes them happy and smile and dance somewhere and makes memories.
‘I want them to listen to the self-love anthems, and hopefully that helps them. There’s a lot of those on the album,’ she added.
Her comments come after she revealed she definitely wants to have more children with actor husband Daryl Sabara.
The Made You Look hitmaker said she wants to have daughters ‘one day’ as she opened up about the impact social media has on young people.
Meghan said she plans to keep her kids from having social media for as long as possible and said, in particular, she would want to keep her daughters off the internet.
‘I hope to have daughters some day and I hope that they never see the internet! Like for as long as I can,’ she told The Daily Telegraph while backing their Let Them Be Kids campaign, which is calling to raise the age limit on social media from 13 to 16.
Meghan went on to back their call for a higher age limit to be imposed on social media as she looked ahead to her own children’s use of the online platforms.
She admitted she can already see her eldest son Riley forming a screen ‘addiction’ as she discussed how ‘rattling’ social media can be on people’s mental health.
‘I think [social media] should be like driving a car, you should have an age limit for sure,’ she continued.
‘I can already see in my three-year-old the addiction to the screens and I can’t imagine if he saw something that upset him… it changes your chemicals forever.’
