PARADISE, Calif. — For those with gardens in their yard or pots and planters on their porch, have the triple-digit temperatures worried you about how long your plants will survive the heat?
The Northstate’s News spoke with a local gardener and Permaculture Designer, Amber French St Clair, about the best ways to keep your plants safe even when the Northstate is hit with these hot temperatures. “You want to cover crops and you want to mulch. The thicker your mulch the more water stays in the soil and the more plants you have.” St Clair continued, “Also a lot of people think they need a lot of space between their plants, but that’s not really true. They will learn how to move around each other and you can also do companion planting which helps the plants be friends and gives each other benefits!”
For those looking for a summer gardening hobby, St Clair told The Northstate’s News that it is currently the peak of tomato season! For the best outcome St Clair recommended you follow the normal instructions to begin your harvest but once we hit august cut out watering them entirely. St Clair said the heat will cause a spike in growth and you can expect a pretty sweet outcome!
