Stranger Things Season 5 Set Photos Unveil First Look at Vecna’s Return

The latest set photos from the Atlanta production of Netflix’s Stranger Things Season 5 have surfaced online, providing fans with a first look at Jamie Campbell Bower’s return. Bower is reprising his villainous role as Vecna/ Henry Creel, who was first introduced as Season 4’s main antagonist.

Shared on X, the newest batch of behind-the-scenes images shows Bower filming at the Creel House, while wearing an all-brown suit. This seemingly teases that Vecna/ Henry Creel will somehow regain his human form, and find a way to return to the real world after years of being stuck in the Upside Down. However, there’s also another possibility that Bower could just be filming a flashback scene or a dream sequence. Besides Bower, the set photos also confirmed Evil Dead Rise star Nell Fisher’s casting in Stranger Things Season 5. She can be seen filming with Bower’s Vecna. Since the final season will begin with a time jump, some fans on social media are speculating that Fisher could potentially be playing Nancy and Mike’s younger sister, Holly, which would mean that they might not be shooting a flashback scene of Vecna’s past.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Might Be Teasing a Stranger Things Cameo

“Weird Al” Yankovic has some fans convinced he’s going to make an appearance in the final season of Stranger Things.

Bower’s Vecna/ Henry Creel was the first gifted child that was put under the care of Dr. Brenner. In Season 4, it was revealed that he was the one responsible for his mother and sister’s murder after using his psychic abilities to brutally distort their bodies. He went on another murdering spree after manipulating Eleven into helping him unlock his powers. After he kills the rest of the kids in Dr. Brenner’s program, Eleven, inadvertently sends him away to the Upside Down, where his physical appearance gets disfigured. Vecna was last seen during the Season 4 finale, where his plans to completely destroy Hawkins were foiled by Eleven and Nancy’s group.

Stranger Things hails from creators and writers Matt and Ross Duffer, who are also directing and executive producing the fifth and final season alongside Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy. The series currently stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Charlie Heaton, and more. Joining them in Season 5 is the Terminator vet Linda Hamilton, whose character details remain a mystery. In a previous interview, some of the main cast, including Brown, Wolfhard, and Hawke, confirmed that The Duffer Brothers are protecting the show’s ending by not letting any of them read the script for the series finale.

Vecna’s Origins Gets Explored in the First Stranger Things Play

Ahead of Stranger Things’ return in 2025, Netflix has produced a stage play prequel titled Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which chronicles Henry Creel’s arrival in Hawkins in 1959. The first show debuted on Dec. 14, 2023 at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End. It was recently announced that the play’s West End run will continue until 2025, after it successfully won two out of five nominations at the 2024 Laurence Olivier Awards, including Best Entertainment or Comedy Play and Best Set Design. According to playwright Kate Tefry, the stage play prequel includes “referential sequences and imagery and callbacks and flashbacks” from Stranger Things Season 5, giving fans who’ll get a chance to see it a “deeper understanding” of the events that will happen in the final season of the main series.
