NBC TWO’S ALEXA BLISS STOPPED BY THE BEACH TODAY IN COLLIER COUNTY AND TALK TO DEPUTIES ABOUT THEIR PLAN TO PATROL THE BEACHES THIS SUMMER. >> THE VIBE IS ALWAYS GOOD OUT ON THE BEACH. TODAY IS THE FIRST OFFICIAL DAY OF SUMMER VACATION FOR COLLIER COUNTY KIDS. AND THEY DEFINITELY MADE THEIR PRESENCE KNOWN YESTERDAY HERE AT VANDERBILT BEACH. I WANT TO SHOW YOU GUYS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE RIGHT NOW. WE HAVE BEEN SEEING MORE CROWDS OF TEENS COMING DOWN TO THE WATER, BUT IT IS A LOT MORE RELAXED THAN WHAT WE SAW YESTERDAY. SCHOOL IS OUT. BEACH IS IN. WE SAW TEENS FLED VANDERBILT BEACH YESTERDAY. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE HELICOPTER FLEW OVERHEAD. ALSO A MARINE UNIT AND ATV’S PATROLLED. >> KEEPING WATCH OVER THIS LARGE GROUP OF KIDS IN THE WATER AND ON THE SAND THEY GATHERED RIGHT AFTER SCHOOL. LET OUT. >> SO WE DID HAVE A LARGE CROWD WE DO A LOT OF JUVENILES PARTY ON THE BEACH AND WHAT NOT COMING OUT HERE ENJOYING AS LONG AS AS WELL AS VACATIONERS AND STUFF THEY’RE VISITING OR HOTELS AND AIRBNBS IN THE AREA AND STUFF. SO. >> IT WAS A LITTLE BIT LARGER THAN WE ASKED CCSO IF THEY’RE TAKING ANY EXTRA PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES. NOW THAT MORE PEOPLE WILL BE FILLING NAPLES BEACHES. WE ARE MAKING PLANS. Teens flood Vanderbilt Beach as summer vacation begins
School is officially out in Collier County, and the beach is the place to be. Thursday, teens took over Vanderbilt Beach, leading to a heightened response from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.As the final school bell of the year rang, teens flocked to the sands of Vanderbilt Beach. The scene prompted CCSO to deploy additional resources, including a helicopter, marine unit, and ATVs, to monitor the large crowd of kids enjoying the sun and surf.CCSO Lt. Tom Orr explained the situation: “I think we live in a beautiful area and we have large crowds all the time […] yesterday happened to be the last day of school, so it was a half day. So we did have a large crowd of juveniles partying on the beach, enjoying their time.”With Naples recently being rated the No. 1 city to live in the country, the influx of people to the beaches is expected to increase. In response, CCSO is taking extra precautionary measures to ensure safety.”We are making plans. We do have extra patrols on the beach,” Orr said. “Our aviation unit helps, as well as our marine unit, so we all work together to keep it safe.”
