Terminally ill Hoosier celebrating final Indy 500 with IMS President Doug Boles, Sandi Patty

On Sunday, April 14, IMS president Doug Boles joined in an official pace car and the five-time Grammy-award winner sang the Star-Spangled Banner.

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — For over 50 years, one Hoosier has held Indy 500 parties and celebrations, but she’s not expected to live to see the race this year — so one organization is bringing “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” to her.

Anew Care, an Indiana home health service, announced it is granting Florence Miskoweic her final wish to celebrate this year’s Indianapolis 500 with the help from Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles and singer Sandi Patty.

“She wanted all the traditions of the Speedway and asked if I would sing the Star-Spangled Banner. Of course, I will. Of course, I will. What an honor,” said Sandi Patty.

On Sunday, April 14, Boles joined in an official pace car and the five-time Grammy-award winner sang the Star-Spangled Banner. Some special cars will also make an appearance.

“Oh my God, fantastic. I never thought this would happen to me,” said Miskoweic.

“Thank you for loving the Speedway like you do,” said Doug Boles.

“I want to thank everybody, and God bless every one of you,” said Miskoweic.
