One aspect of the Toyota RAV4 is just plain average. See the 2024 Toyota RAV4 safety scores and how it compares.
Sometimes being popular doesn’t mean you’re the best. The Toyota RAV4 is the best-selling SUV despite not being remodeled since 2019. It might show its age as other SUVs continue to outrank it in important areas. The 2024 Toyota RAV4 safety scores could be part of the problem.
Are 2024 Toyota RAV4 safety scores good?
According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), The 2024 Toyota RAV4 safety scores are average, which is good, but not great or necessarily impressive.
In the updated test for vehicle-to-vehicle front crashes at higher speeds, only the Subaru Forester was able to earn a Good score. That’s the highest score possible.
The updated test reflects realistic results at higher speeds. The majority of vehicles come with automatic emergency braking, which is reportedly preventing up to half of all front-to-rear crashes.
But the tougher testing requirements prove that some of the most dangerous front-to-rear crashes are still occurring.
The previous test only went up to 25 mpg, but the new one reaches 43 mph because deadly underride crashes often occur when vehicles hit lager options like big trucks.
The 2024 Toyota RAV4 safety scores showed that it was able to avoid collisions between about 31 to 37 mpg. However, it may have struggled to consistently slow down during the 43 mpg trials.
However, the RAV4 is an IIHS Top Safety Pick. It performs well in most tests but doesn’t meet the requirements to earn the Top Safety Pick+ designation.
During the child crossing test, the RAV4 avoided a collision at 12 mpg, but during the 25 mph, its speed was only reduced by 21 mph before impact. With a crossing adult, the RAV4 avoided collisions at speeds of 12 and 35 mph.
The parallel adult test is performed at night. The RAV4 avoided a collision at speeds of 25 mpg with its high beams and low beams.
When the speed increased to 37 mpg, the RAV4 avoided a collision with its high beams and issued a warning 1.8 seconds before impact.
With its low beams, the RAV4 reduced its speed by 20 mph and issued a warning 1.0 seconds before impact.
