TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo family says their apartment is infested with fleas, and their unit has been unlivable for more than a week.
Dylan Cook and Delaney Garlick say fleas are attacking their family, which includes their 3-year-old daughter Ava.
“Our animals got attacked, we’re getting attacked,” Cook said. “You can’t even stand in the apartment for a couple minutes without having fleas on your socks and everything.”
Cook described eggs, live bugs, and dead fleas all over the carpet, bedding and other places in the apartment.
The couple told 13 Action News that when they notified managers at the Andover Apartments about the problem, employees said they won’t be bringing pest control out until the end of the month.
The couple tried fighting the bugs on their own, but they say they need professionals to deal with the infestation.
“We can’t wait,” Garlick said. “We spent so much of our own money bombing it already and we just don’t know what to do.”
The situation has forced the family to move out of their apartment to live with relatives, but many of their items remain inside the unit.
The couple is worried some of those items may not be salvageable.
“There’s a lot of stuff that we’re probably going to have to part ways with,” Cook said. “Personal belongings that are sentimental in ways and it’s just unfortunate. This could have been prevented a long time ago.”
The family’s lease goes until December, but Cook and Garlick said they don’t think they want to go back.
