Woman arrested for hurting child at Sioux City daycare, court documents say

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A woman is facing a child endangerment charge after she allegedly hurt a child at a Sioux City daycare.

Court documents show 31-year-old Geri Beltz of Cushing, Iowa was arrested on Thursday, June 6, and charged with child endangerment – bodily injury.

According to court documents, the charge comes from an incident on May 23 at the Apple Tree Daycare at 4224 Hickory Lane in Sioux City. In court documents, authorities say Beltz was a childcare provider looking after a kid at the daycare and on that morning she forcibly grabbed and pulled the child by the upper arms multiple times.

Authorities say Beltz’s actions left visible marks on the child’s arms, which were discovered later that day. The kid reportedly still had bruising on their upper arms five days after the alleged incident.

Court documents state Beltz’s actions were recorded on security cameras.

The mother of the child reached out to KTIV, saying she wants more people to know about this so it doesn’t happen to anyone else’s child.

“We just want justice for our son and to make sure this never happens to another child again,” said Molly Anderson, the mother of the child authorities say was harmed at the daycare.

Court documents show Beltz was booked into the Woodbury County Jail and has already posted bond. She is expected back in court on June 13, 2024, for her initial appearance.

KTIV has reached out to Apple Tree Daycare for a comment, and they say Beltz has been let go.

“In regards to the child endangerment arrest, there was a situation that occurred at our Morningside location a few weeks ago. That day, when we became aware of the incident, we reviewed tapes and immediately terminated the employee, as well as contacted the Department of Human Services & Child Protective Services. We have fully cooperated with law enforcement during their investigation.

“A child’s safety is our top priority, and background checks are run on all employees before employment is offered.”
