New York City apartments aren’t exactly known for being spacious, and beauty lovers in the Big Apple will relate to having to sacrifice their prized possessions in the name of storage space.
There are millions of savvy storage hacks out there, but the bathroom is often a room left lacking solutions, an issue that one poster has finally found the answer for.
Beauty creator Helen Liao, who probably has more products to worry about than most thanks to her profession, had recently moved in the city from a two-bed apartment to a one-bed. She soon realized that she had a lot of items she needed to find a spot for.
Luckily, Liao came up with a solution that turned her storage nightmare into a dream by using a great space that is often overlooked: the back of her bathroom door.
The smart idea meant she was able to store all her products in the small bathroom space. It gained online attention, receiving over 958,000 views and more than 75,000 likes since being shared to her TikTok account, @helenliao, on April 12.
Apartments in the city are notoriously small, meaning any storage space is a great plus for tenants. In fact, some are even forced to share with strangers, or end up without any bathroom at all.
By attaching a clip-on bracket to the back of the door, Liao was able to attach eight storage bins down the center of the door, providing ample storage for all her products.
After hooking the bracket to the door and testing her DIY project was secure, Liao began filling the bins with a bounty of beauty goodies, quickly taking up the storage space she had created with electronics, hair and skin products, and more.
Beauty lovers will relate to another common storage issue; struggling to find solutions when products are too big for the space you’ve found for them, as well as wasting valuable storage if they are significantly smaller than their intended container.
Liao had already considered this potential roadblock and had selected multiple sizes of container to ensure enough space for her entire collection.
What Do the Comments Say?
The comments section was full of fellow New Yorkers appreciative for Liao’s bathroom storage idea, as one called it “soooo smart !!”
Another wrote: “Thank you for this idea bc [because] my nyc apt [New York City apartment] bathroom is smaller than a prison cell.”
A third appreciated Liao’s choice of placement, adding that, “The door is such useful space!!”
One user shared some advice for safely storing products in the bathroom: “You should get a covered container for anything that has open lids/pumps so contaminated air particles don’t land there before you apply it on your skin!”
