Diptyque is taking people on a perfumed journey around the globe with its annual City Candles collection. Each year, the brand engineers unique formulas for the candles reflecting the signature identity and scents of select global cities.
The collection typically cycles through the same 11 cities, though all boast a new scent formula each year. The City Candles are also notoriously exclusive and only sold in their namesake cities at Diptyque stores, save for one week when they’re all available to purchase online.
The Paris candle weaves lavender into chypre, a perfume variation known for its woodsy, citrusy smell. London similarly evokes florals with notes of heliotrope, lilac, juniper and hyacinth, paying homage to the summertime Flower Market on the city’s Columbia Road.
For a sharper smell, Berlin infuses lime and honey to imitate a walk down Unter den Linden, a path lined with linden trees. Miami, meanwhile, is fittingly beachy with a blend of lemon and magnolia flowers.
New Yok favors a deeper, sexier profile. Drawing together cedar wood, vetiver, incense and patchouli, the candle seeks to emulate the smell of the city’s speakeasies, while Shanghai pays homage to the tea ceremony through notes of osmanthus flower and green tea.
Other candles in the mix include Hong Kong, Pekin, Seoul, Tokyo and Beverly Hills. Each candle comes in an exclusive box decorated with a graphic of the city’s architecture.
This year, Diptyque is offering its Paris and Hong Kong candles exclusively paired as a duo. The City Candles collection will be available on the Diptyque website from June 20 to June 26.
