Hootie and the O’Brien family spent their early years in Kenwood and Lake Minnetonka. Hootie graduated from Pepin Academy of Fashion in 1937, which fostered a passion that would last through her lifetime.During the years she raised her family, she was an active member of the Minneapolis Junior League and was still a member at age 105. She had many leading roles in Children’s Theatre. Her children loved these and were so proud of their mother. In the 70’s Hootie partnered with dear friend, Peggy Hammerel, in a successful interior design business, in which she worked into her 90’s. In addition, she and her son-in-law, John Theissen, opened and ran The Country Shop in Wayzata for many years. The family wishes to extend their special thanks to Kat Russell, who tirelessly gave so much endless love and caring to Hootie. They would also like to thank The Waters of Plymouth for their constant love, care and devotion. Hootie was so happy there! Memorials may be directed to St. Martin’s by the Lake, the Hennepin County Humane Society or to donor’s choice. A memorial service will be held at St. Martin’s by the Lake at a date to be announced.
